Transforming Food Waste into Opportunity: The Rumbella App
Story About SideGuide
Food waste is a major environmental issue, with one-third of global food production going to waste. In the F&B industry, overproduction leads to resource inefficiency and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
With rising global hunger rates, it's vital to reduce food waste and redirect surplus food. To tackle this, a software development firm launched Rumbella, a platform connecting businesses with surplus fresh food to customers at discounted prices.
Rumbella offers a user-friendly, no-commitment system, allowing businesses to reduce their environmental impact. Additionally, through tree-planting initiatives and food donations, Rumbella promotes sustainability and makes customers feel good about their purchases.
Technologies
Walturn's engineers collaborated closely with Rumbella's team to tackle key challenges. We handled payment gateway integration, bug fixes, testing, and feature additions. A notable feature we implemented was the 'Killswitch,' connected to Firebase, allowing admins to toggle user access. Our team held daily standups with the client to discuss progress and resolve any issues. By integrating GitHub with Jira, we streamlined tracking and collaboration. We ensured the app was thoroughly tested and met all client requirements.
Impact
Rumbella has significantly contributed to reducing food waste within the F&B industry by creating a platform where businesses can sell surplus fresh food at discounted rates. By bridging the gap between businesses and consumers, Rumbella has not only minimized waste but also supported sustainability efforts through initiatives like tree planting and food donations. The easy-to-use platform has encouraged businesses to adopt more environmentally conscious practices, while customers enjoy quality products at lower prices.
